Description
Shot on expired 16mm film stock over the course of one year, Liminal Passages documents doorways and passages from various locations around the world—train stations, private homes, museums, industrial sites. The film grain and color shifts inherent to the expired stock become integral to the work’s meditation on memory and decay.
The installation presents two synchronized channels on opposing walls, creating a corridor of light that viewers must physically traverse. The surround audio consists of field recordings from each location, layered and processed to create an immersive sonic environment.
Technical Notes
The decision to use expired film was intentional—the unpredictable color shifts and increased grain mirror the way memory itself degrades and transforms over time. Each location was visited multiple times across different seasons, creating a temporal layering within the single-channel presentation.
