Residue Series (I-V)
Overview
The Residue Series comprises five sculptural objects accompanied by a portfolio of photogravure prints. Each object is created through a process of casting the negative spaces found in abandoned buildings—door jambs, window ledges, the gaps between floorboards.
Technical Details
- Medium: Cast concrete, bronze, and resin objects; photogravure prints
- Object Dimensions: Variable, ranging from 15 × 20 × 8 cm to 45 × 30 × 12 cm
- Print Dimensions: 50 × 40 cm each
- Edition: Unique objects with editioned prints (5 + 2 AP)
Process
The creation process involves:
- Site selection in abandoned or soon-to-be-demolished structures
- Three-dimensional scanning of negative architectural spaces
- CNC milling of positive forms
- Casting in various materials (concrete, bronze, resin)
- Photogravure documentation of the original sites
Concept
These works capture what is normally unseen—the voids, gaps, and interstitial spaces that define architecture as much as solid walls do. By giving physical form to absence, the series questions our relationship to memory, preservation, and urban decay.
Each piece is titled after its source location:
- I: Rue de la Gare, Paris 13e
- II: Factory Complex, Lille
- III: Villa M., Nice
- IV: Warehouse District, Marseille
- V: Schoolhouse, Rural Auvergne
Collection
Works from this series are held in private collections in Paris, Berlin, and New York.
